Grants are made possible by LGBTQ-focused endowments at The Community Foundation

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The LGBTQ Community Fund, a field of interest fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, has awarded $90,000 in grants as Pride Month is celebrated in Northeast Florida and nationwide.

Established in 2014, the LGBTQ Community Fund has awarded nearly $1.2 million in grants over the past decade. Annual grantmaking is now supported by endowments that donors continue to grow. During the Fund’s tenth anniversary celebration last year, more than $500,000 in new contributions were pledged. This year’s grantmaking was about $15,000 more than the year before. The Fund was recently spotlighted in a segment on News4Jax.

“It’s heartening to be able to make these grants at a time when many nonprofits serving the LGBTQ community are facing hardship,” said Glenn Miller, chair of the grants panel. “We are grateful to everyone who supported our endowment during our anniversary celebration.”

The focus of the 2024 grants is general program support for organizations serving the LGBTQ community, an approach that allows the nonprofits maximum flexibility to direct funds where they are needed most. The grantees include:

  • Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida$15,000 – to support the fourth cohort of the LGBTQIA+ Nonprofit Leadership Development Program.
  • Equality Florida$10,000 – to support education and empowerment of Northeast Florida parents with tools, resources, and information to advocate for their LGBTQ children.
  • Women’s Center of Jacksonville$10,000 – to support a mental health counselor serving LGBTQ+ clients.
  • Fernandina Beach Pride Inc.$7,500 – to expand programming in Nassau County.
  • Southern Legal Counsel$7,500 – to support representation of transgender individuals living in Northeast Florida.
  • Jax River City Pride$5,000 – to expand outreach and engagement to rural and underserved communities.
  • The Lotus Project Inc.$5,000 – to support a gender-affirming clothing closet.
  • The Queer Trans Project$5,000 – to provide gender affirming services to transgender Northeast Florida residents.
  • Jacksonville Campus Ministry$2,500 – to support LGBTQIA+ college students in Northeast Florida.
