The gifts will be endowed, generating revenue for grantmaking to promote an inclusive environment for local LGBTQ people in perpetuity

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Donors have committed $400,000 in new gifts to the endowments supporting LGBTQ people at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. The gifts, which were announced at the Fund’s 10th anniversary celebration this month, will increase annual grantmaking in perpetuity.

The LGBTQ Community Fund is a field of interest fund at The Community Foundation dedicated to fostering a welcoming an inclusive community for local LGBTQ people. It has distributed more than $1.1 million in grants to 28 nonprofits since its creation in 2014.

The donors include Chad Labenz and Michael Meyers, trustee of The Community Foundation, Glenn and Michael Miller, the chair of the grants panel, Delores Barr Weaver, and an anonymous donor, who have each committed $100,000 and challenged the community to join them as they work toward a $3 million goal. The endowment was established in 2018 at the Fund’s fifth anniversary with support from Delores Barr Weaver and the Chartrand Family. The endowment now produces significant support for annual grantmaking, which will grow thanks to the new gifts.

“Endowed philanthropy is a powerful tool to help meet the needs of the community, forever,” said Isaiah M. Oliver, President of The Community Foundation. “I’m grateful to the visionary donors who have stepped forward at the Fund’s 10th anniversary to make such a long-lasting contribution to LGBTQ people in Northeast Florida.”
