Competitive Community Grantmaking

The Community Foundation accepts grant applications for a variety of funding opportunities. Each category or focus has different guidelines and timelines. We also have a limited number of scholarships to help current and future students to pursue undergraduate and graduate education, professional development and other educational enrichment opportunities.

Overview

The majority of our open competitive grantmaking falls into two main categories: Capacity Building and Program Support. Any 501c3 in our service area (Duval, Clay, Baker, St. Johns, Nassau and Putnam counties) may apply for EITHER a Capacity Building OR a Program Support grant in any given year.

 

Please note: There is a special application for nonprofit organizations with annual budgets of less than $200,000 to apply for either of these competitive grants with an application process designed especially for small organizations.

 

The Community Foundation also accepts grant applications in other focus areas where donors have requested that we oversee grantmaking decisions or where we have an established initiative with a funding source. Each has different guidelines and timelines and are listed below.

Nonprofit organizations may apply for only one of the following opportunities per grant cycle.

  • Aging Adults
    Grants to improve the quality of life for Aging Adults with a focus on direct support for aging adults and caregiver support. Grant size: Up to $15,000. Learn More.
  • Early Childhood
    Grants to improve services for Young Children (birth to preschool) with a focus on early learning centers and caregiver/parent support to meet their needs (Duval County only). Grant size: Up to $15,000. Learn More.
  • LGBTQ
    The LGBTQ Community Fund for Northeast Florida makes grants to nonprofit organizations in Northeast Florida that support our LGBTQ communities. Learn More.
  • Supporting Neighborhoods
    Grants to strengthen neighborhood leadership, expand the supply of affordable housing, and equitably expand economic opportunity for marginalized residents of Northeast Florida. Learn More.
  • Putnam County
    Grants to assist with improving the quality of life in Putnam County. Learn More.
  • Small Organizations
    For small organizations with budgets of $150,000 or less. Funding can support strengthening organizations and program development. Grant size: Up to $2,500. Learn More.

Nonprofit organizations applying for grants through Art Ventures Small Arts Organization or Visual Arts in St. Augustine may not also apply for a program support grant.

 

  • Art Ventures – Small Arts Organizations
    Open to small and mid-sized  organizations whose primary mission is arts and culture. Grant applications open August 1, 2024.
  • Art Ventures – Individual Artists
    The Individual Artist Grants are designed to help Northeast Florida artists emerge to the next level of their artistic careers. These grants are offered every other year. The next open grant cycle for Individual Artists will be in 2025. Learn More.

    The Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert Fund makes grants to promote visual art appreciation or education in St. Augustine, FL. Sponsorship proposals up to $2,500 are considered on a rolling basis. Learn More.
  • A.L. Lewis Black Opportunity & Impact Fund
    Grants open to nonprofit organizations working within predominantly Black neighborhoods in Jacksonville (Duval County). Learn More.
  • Beaches Community Fund
    Supports nonprofit organizations serving the Beaches communities from Mayport to Guana, east of the Intracoastal Waterway. Learn More.
  • Women’s Giving Alliance
    Open to nonprofit organizations that support women and girls in Northeast Florida. Learn More.

Scholarships

The Community Foundation is host to a number of scholarship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate education. Applications for scholarships are open from January through March each year.
