From the President: Giving Thanks
Jan Healy
I am excited about WGA's new year ahead! We have so much we want to accomplish. WGA is driven to be a good steward for your trust as well as your capital; we are equally committed to making the best of whatever challenges present themselves. We intend to build upon our treasured legacy of strategic grantmaking and a focused mission to improve the lives of women and girls since our founding almost 20 years ago. (In fact, we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary next year).

With my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, only a couple of weeks away, we want to pause to thank Mary Pietan and the retiring committee members for their vision and steady leadership through extraordinary times. We are also grateful and delighted to welcome the incoming leadership team. We encourage you to find a committee that interests you and contact one of the co-chairs. We hope and expect you will find your involvement rewarding.

Thank you for your continued commitment to the Women's Giving Alliance. Please contact me at any time with questions or suggestions.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Annual Meeting: A Virtual Success
annual meeting screen

Do you know who Judith Keppel is? You would if you had attended WGA's virtual Annual Meeting last month. Her name was an answer in the "Female Millionaire Philanthropist" quiz that started the meeting.*

Over 150 WGA members and guests participated in the event, which included a review of our emphasis on Breaking the Cycle of Female Poverty and learnings from the Agency Convening Session that was held in August.

We heard about DEI: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, a new WGA initiative. We believe that by embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion as an organizational value, we will open more space to flourish as strategic grant makers. We have added a new DEI committee to WGA's steering committee to guide us in this effort.

We learned that Putnam County has been added to WGA's service area, joining Duval, Nassau, St. Johns, Baker and Clay, and aligning with The Community Foundation's service area. At the end, outgoing president Mary Pietan passed the gavel to incoming president Jan Healy. (How did they do that?)

If you missed the virtual Annual Meeting you can view it now on the WGA website.

*Judith Keppel was the first person to win one million pounds on the British television game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"
