Fundholder Spotlight: Tom Nehl Truck Company

Founded in 1958, Tom Nehl Truck Company has been a trusted name in commercial trucking for more than 65 years. Now led by President Steve Bacalis and his daughter, Executive Vice President Lauren Scheible (pictured above), the company’s values of integrity, customer focus, and excellence extend beyond a one-time purchase.

“We are successful because of our employees. We are in a relationship business, and our customers know they can depend on us to partner with them.”

For decades, the company has lived out a unique pledge: giving back at least 2 percent of net profits every year. Since 2020, they have done so through the Tom Nehl Truck Company Fund, which supports organizations that strengthen children and families, from
the Boy Scouts and Salvation Army to Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Hunger Fight. Lauren’s commitment is also personal—her own son spent weeks in the Wolfson Children’s Hospital NICU as a premature baby. “That experience showed me firsthand the
incredible resources we have here in Jacksonville,” she said.

Employees play a big role, too. Whether it’s book drives for local schools or food-packing events, “they always knock it out of the park,” Lauren said. “Their heart for giving inspires us.”
