How DEI Enhances our Work
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee has been actively involved in helping WGA view all of our work through a DEI lens. Through integration with all WGA committees, the DEI Committee is helping us become more inclusive in all aspects of our work—including but not limited to membership recruitment and retention, leadership development, grantmaking policies and procedures, advocacy, and internal and external communications. Our tomorrow is contingent upon our success today: our success to create an inclusive environment where we as a team of women can ensure the strength of WGA, our mission, the swell of our membership and the accomplishment of our overall goal: a thriving community where every woman and girl has equal opportunity to live holistically, mind, body and soul.

Throughout this year, the DEI Committee has worked to help various committees, including the Grants Decision Team, with resources for unconscious bias training prior to beginning the grant decision process. The presence of DEI members on various committees helps promote strategies and best practices to achieve racial, social, sexual, and gender diversity. We are currently working to create partnerships with racially and ethnically diverse groups to listen and learn from their perspectives. This work is not just the responsibility of the DEI committee, we only serve as the champions for the work. Our entire leadership team, to include every committee are committed to this journey. Professional Organizational Assessment for Future Growth
WGA is extremely proud to have realized significant growth since its founding twenty years ago—430 members, an endowment of almost $6 million, and grants totaling $7.7 million to non-profit organizations that share our mission. The goal of the professional organizational assessment is to identify specific, actionable recommendations that will contribute to the growth, member satisfaction, and impact of WGA over the next twenty years. The specific focus for the assessment is on the internal operations and structure of WGA. We look forward to setting the table for the next stage of strong growth and impact!
Members Learn About Girl Centered Programs
WGA members gathered at the MaliVai Washington Foundation last month for an education session on the topic of Girl-Centered programs. Representatives from several girl-serving organizations participated in a panel discussion, noting, among other issues, mental health needs which arose as a repercussion from the pandemic. Terri Florio, Executive Director, MaliVai Washington Foundation, then led a group tour around MaliVai's new facility.
4/12/22 - Connectors in Mandarin/Orange Park/Deerwood gathered at the home of Melissa Shrader and bonded over their love of WGA and plants while making these adorable custom labels for their pots.
New members and guests gathered at the home of Jan Healy to meet one another and learn a bit about WGA. Lively conversation centered around why new members chose to join: "I should have done it 20 years ago", "I met many WGA members at a Cummer Museum event and knew I wanted to join" and "Several of my friends at church are members. This is where I learned about the wonderful work of WGA".
4Sight and DBW Fellows Gather
Participants in the Delores Barr Weaver Fellows and 4Sight programs enjoyed a reunion social last month. The group enjoyed wine and hors d'oeuvres at the Sky Lounge on Bishop Gate Lane.

The Delores Barr Weaver 4Sight Program is a opportunity for women 40 and under who are passionate about improving the lives of women and girls in Northeast Florida to raise their voices and increase their impact through collective giving. These women are our region's emerging philanthropists and represent the future of WGA.

We'll be joined by three fabulous women who are experts in their respective fields and work year-round on the issues facing many of our grantees.

Madeleine Thakur, President of The Children's Movement of Florida
Michele Watson, Chief Executive Officer of the Florida Alliance of Children's Councils and Trusts (FACCT)
