WGA's 2022 Grant Pool Was Historic: $660,000 in Grants to 17 Nonprofits!
On May 18th we hosted our annual Member Forum event, "Facing Forward," focusing on the future of strategic philanthropy and collective giving. Members, guests, partners and friends gathered at UNF's University Center to celebrate this year's 17 grant recipients and our collective work to help underserviced women and girls reach their full potential.

Everyone enjoyed a special presentation from guest speaker and Ted2022 presenter Sara Lomelin, founding CEO of Philanthropy Together, a global initiative working to diversify and democratize philanthropy. We also outlined several initiatives to position WGA for success in the next 20 years, including new research to guide the future of WGA grantmaking, an organizational assessment to help optimize our growth and reach the next generation of diverse, female philanthropists. Finally, we wrapped up the event by awarding $660,000 in core mission funding grants to 17 deserving nonprofit partners who support women and girls across Northeast Florida.

We were also grateful that the individual gifts that contributed to this year's grant pool included generous contributions from Betty L. Francis and The Catherine Drompp Fund. Thank you!

We are excited to share that WGA was recently featured on the front page of the Florida Times-Union newspaper and Jacksonville.com. The article, Women's Giving Alliance at 20: With almost $8 million in grants, 'we are making a difference', highlighted our founding story and 20 years of impact in northeast Florida.

Core Mission Funding Appreciated by Grantees
"I can tell you the 2022 Core Mission grant application process was straightforward, simple and efficient. What makes it so unique is the flexibility in funding and allowing organizations to set their own goals and objectives in alignment with yours. So many public and private funders set exclusions....and for a wraparound agency like JFCS, being able to use funds in different program areas, for different needs, makes the most sense for us and allows our clients to receive the scope of services that fit their needs. Agency needs evolve...and so do client needs, and when you have flexible funding like the Core Mission funding, you can pivot to respond to those needs quickly."

Advocacy in Action
The Advocacy Committee hosted a Legislative Debrief Lunchtime Zoom on Monday, May 23rd. Approximately 20 WGA members joined together to hear from leaders of some of our partner agencies (pictured above) that work on issues impacting women and girls in Florida and our communities. We discussed the impacts of 2022 legislation on child care, mental health, housing and Kidcare. We learned that legislation was passed which made for the highest increase in Florida’s history to the voluntary pre-kindergarten program along with a significant increase to subsidized childcare, both of which are a huge benefit to many women and particularly their young children. We also saw the largest single one-year appropriation to affordable housing, with new benefits being prioritized for front-line workers including teachers, many of who are women. Overall, a great deal of positive momentum in the way of supports to the population we serve came out of Tallahassee this year. Looking ahead, with elections coming in November, we can expect to see some new faces in the Capitol next year as well as many returning members, including several in leadership out of the North Florida area. Thank you to all of those who joined and we hope to see you on future advocacy events in the future. And a huge thank you to our presenters, who did an amazing job breaking down the tough information for all of us.
