50 Grants Support Hunger Relief Across Northeast Florida

Share this post:

The Community Foundation has issued 50 grants totaling $192,500 to nonprofits across the Northeast Florida region that are helping provide food in their communities.

The grants were made through a rapid-response approach that asked vetted nonprofits to complete a simple questionnaire about stepped-up food needs at their agencies. The request was extended to organizations that have previously been awarded discretionary grants for food security from the Foundation.

“Through this process, we’ve seen how many small nonprofits are at the forefront of helping feed their neighbors – seniors, families, veterans, and others,” said Amy Crane, Vice President of Programs. “Our aim is to acknowledge this important community response. We hope that these resources will provide some much-needed support of their efforts.”

Most grants range from $750 to $5,000, with a limited number receiving shopping credits for food at Feeding Northeast Florida in lieu of a grant. The grants were made possible by the Anonymous Fund, dedicated to basic needs and crisis response.

“This couldn’t have come at a better time!” said Kathleen Spears, Executive Director of Waste Not Want Not. “We are making more rescues and deliveries, so this will help us cover budget overages for fuel and maintenance. We are a small but mighty organization – so a gift this size carries such a huge impact.”
