|What happens when recipients of charitable giving are given a chance to sit in the donor’s chair? A group of recent University of North Florida graduates who were scholarship recipients recently got an opportunity to find out. The inaugural class of Weaver Scholars Philanthropic Initiative learned how to make a difference with a little post-graduate education in the art and science of philanthropy. Pictured here are the students, with benefactors J. Wayne & Delores Barr Weaver.
Stimulating Philanthropy to Build a Better Community. Very simply, that is our mission. We must work to inspire new gifts and create new givers. Only when we can magnify the generous contributions of our donors and engage more individuals and organizations to think about charitable giving can we truly achieve our goals.
Over the years, we have expanded our ways of thinking about new gifts and new givers. We created and now host one of the most successful women’s giving circles in the nation. We convene grantmakers from across our region to share ideas and promote philanthropic initiatives. We eagerly and frequently partner with other funders to advance community priorities. We’re working hard to engage the next generation of donors through an education and involvement model that seeds philanthropy among young adults. And we have proudly served as an incubator for other area community groups as they looked toward creating their own community foundations.
