Building a Better Future Together

Local leadership and grassroots efforts have long shaped Northeast Florida’s diverse communities and rich cultural tapestry. Since our earliest days, The Community Foundation has provided partnership and funding to support organizations that are lifting up our local neighborhoods. Working together, we are making it possible to realize a shared vision for the future.

A Groundswell of Support for Lasting Change

Supporting neighborhoods continues as our key strategic initiative, with a significant annual investment. Our goal is to strengthen neighborhood leadership, improve access to affordable housing, and equitably expand economic opportunity for marginalized residents of Northeast Florida.

Revitalizing Underserved Neighborhoods

In 1998, we helped bring Local Initiatives Support Corporation to Jacksonville to focus on underserved neighborhoods. We have continued to fund LISC Jacksonville annually, supporting their efforts to leverage public dollars with private investments to make change happen. To date, LISC Jacksonville has invested $500M+ in Jacksonville’s urban core, 2,500+ affordable housing units, 3,500+ jobs, and a 40%-50% crime reduction in targeted neighborhoods.
The Community Foundation invests in a variety of grants and initiatives to strengthen community coalitions, support underserved communities and build capacity for new and small grassroots nonprofits.

Eradicating Generational Poverty

A grant made to North Riverside CDC launched a door-to-door campaign to help homeowners protect their home’s legal status. NRCDC identified and referred more than two dozen homeowners to Three Rivers Legal Services, who helped ensure that they understood their rights and obligations and had the correct legal documents, thereby preserving generational wealth.

Black & Minority Businesses

Together with the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, a $120,000 commitment to the Contractors Assistance Program (CAP) of The Black Business Initiative Fund Florida provides loan capital and business training to help Black contractors thrive.

Coalitions for Local Change

Over $800,000 in grants to Revitalize Arlington, Northwest Jax CDC, Historic Eastside CDC, and NewTown Success Zone support placemaking, training, community engagement and organizational capacity.

Small Grants. Lasting Impacts.

Small Organization grants help nonprofits to build capacity while enriching programs. Our $2,000 grant to Mission of the Dirt Road provided vital funding as well as an opportunity to secure an additional $10,000 from another funder. Through Supporting Neighborhoods, the nonprofit also received a $25,000 Program Support grant to take its efforts even further.
