A.L. Lewis Black Opportunity & Impact Fund

The A.L. Lewis Black Opportunity & Impact Fund supports nonprofit organizations and programs/projects working within selected neighborhoods in Duval County. The overarching objective of these grants is to empower residents to collaborate and enhance their communities by leveraging their skills, experiences and expertise to uplift community health, education, and economic opportunities.

Grant Size: Up to $2,000

Eligibility:

  • Nonprofit organizations with current 501(c)(3) status public charity or private operating foundation status, or religious institution, or have a formal agreement with a Fiscal Agent that is a 501(c)(3).
  • Annual operating budget of less than $150,000.
  • Organizations and programs that work within Jacksonville (Duval County) with a priority for the following ZIP codes for the last two years: 32202, 32204, 32206, 32208, 32209, 32218, and 32254.
  • Work/project must focus on one of the following:
    • Economic Development: Increased access to opportunities that create inclusive and economically thriving communities.
    • Education: Investments in educational resources that equip individuals and organizations with the tools to succeed in a career, business and/or industry.
    • Health: Solutions that target eliminating social, racial and economic barriers to achieve optimal health and well-being in vulnerable communities.

*Religious institutions that meet the requirements of IRS section 501(c)(3) are automatically considered tax exempt and are not required to apply for and obtain recognition of tax-exempt status from the IRS.

We are not able to fund: 

  • Athletic associations
  • Fundraising event sponsorships
  • Schools and school-based organizations (PTAs, boosters, etc.)
  • Requests outside our geographical area (must be in Duval County)
  • Programs promoting religious beliefs*
  • Organizations that currently have a grant open with the A.L Lewis Black Opportunity and Impact Fund.

*Grants may be made to faith-based organizations for the non-religious programs offered to the broader community

Timeline

  • February 1, 2026: Grant application opens in our Grantee Portal
  • March 5, 2026: Application closes at 5:00 PM
  • December 2026: Notifications of funding decisions sent
  • January 1 – December 31, 2027: Grant funded projects occur
