Environmental Conservation Grants
The Northeast Florida Environmental Conservation Fund is now accepting grant support inquiries from nonprofits working to improve, protect and conserve the environment in Northeast Florida.
About the Grants & Process
The Northeast Florida Environmental Conservation Fund was established at The Community Foundation in 2022 by the Public Trust for Conservation and St. Johns Riverkeeper to receive funds resulting from Clean Water Act violations to protect and enhance Northeast Florida’s natural environment. The Community Foundation has convened an expert advisory committee to assist in making grants designed to remediate the impacts of pollution on water and air quality.
Grants are awarded on a rolling basis as funds are available. Prospective applicants are invited to complete the notice of interest form as the first step to seek funding. The committee will then determine if the program is a good fit for funding support and request further information, as needed, including submission of a full application.
Eligibility
- Tax-exempt organizations, including nonprofits, city and county governments, and institutions of higher education, may apply.
- To be considered for funding, the purpose of the project must be for supporting and promoting pollution prevention and reduction, environmental restoration, enhancements to water quality, assessments and auditing, environmental compliance promotion, and/or emergency planning/preparedness.
- Applicant organization must be located in Florida and operate in Northeast Florida; project must be located in Northeast Florida.
Additional Criteria for Projects:
- Projects that promote pollution prevention are emphasized.
- Preference may be given to projects that leverage other support by bridging a gap in funding or providing a required match.
- Preference may be given to projects that include educational/community outreach to amplify the community benefit.
The Northeast Florida Environmental Conservation Fund’s first grant was awarded to LISC Jacksonville, in partnership with the Riverview Collective Community Organization, which used the funding to install oyster shell habitats in the Trout River. Read more.
