Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert Visual Art Appreciation and Visual Art Education Fund

The Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert Visual Art Appreciation and Visual Art Education Fund seeks to support opportunities to educate and bring art to the people of St. Augustine.  The fund was established to perpetuate Dr. Crisp-Ellert's love of art and her appreciation for St. Augustine.  In general, grants for up to $10,000 are available to nonprofit organizations to support visual art appreciation and visual art education in St. Augustine for work lasting up to 12 months.

Since 2009, the Foundation has awarded thirteen grants for visual art appreciation and education in St. Augustine through the Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert Fund.

Application Process

  • Applications will be available on April 15, 2013
  • A Learning Session for Crisp-Ellert grants and Art Ventures grants (Small Arts Organizations and Individual Artists) will be held in St. Augustine on April 18 at 10:00 a.m., at 370 Beach Blvd. A1A, St. Augustine Beach, FL 32080, St. Johns County Cultural Council/The Dance Company.
  • Applications are due by June 13, 2013, 5:00 p.m.
  • Competitive applications are reviewed by a committee comprised of representatives from The Foundation’s Board of Trustees and community representatives with subject area expertise. The identity of committee members is confidential. The committee will make recommendations to The Foundation’s Board of Trustees for approval. Grants will be awarded by November 1, 2013.

2012

  • $10,000 to St. Augustine Art Association to support the expansion of the "Tactile Art Show" into the community using Braille sinage and descriptive audio tours.
  • $10,000 to Flagler College to support installing an exhibition at the Crisp-Ellert Gallery featuring historically and culturally significant ephermera relating to the construction and early years of the Hotel Ponce de Leon.
  • $7,700 to St. Augustine Historical Society to support the framing of selected works from thier collection and better preserve the peices for exhibit to the general public.
  • $7,000 to Vilano Beach Main Street to support the creation of six mosaic panels of nature, wildlife, history and habitats for the Vilano Beach Nature Boardwalk. Students from the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind will create the panels which will be textured to allow viewing by blind visitors.

2011

  • $8,450 to The Arc of the St. Johns to support a photography project featuring the work of 12 ARC students ages 28-74, in collaboration with the Flagler College Photography Club.
  • $10,000 to Flagler College to purchase and install advanced security monitoring for the Crisp-Ellert Museum.
  • $7,000 to the Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway to expand awareness, art education and resource protection of A1A Byway public spaces in partnership with St. Augustine elementary schools, arts organizations and the Department of Parks & Recreation.

2010

  • $7,000 to the Cyprian Center for Expressive Arts to promote, market and distribute a book of photography on Lincolnville, an historic African-American community in St. Augustine.
  • $7,000 to the St. Augustine Art Association to establish a docent program.

2009

  • $7,000 to Flagler College to develop a learning partnership between K-12 students in St. Johns County and faculty and students at the college.
  • $7,000 to the Limelight Theatre to upgrade the theatre and expand its use for visual and performing arts.
  • $7,000 to the St. Augustine Art Association to digitize its permanent collection of Depression-era art and make it available online with historical content.
  • $5,000 to the Cyprian Center for Expressive Arts to launch a creative photography program for middle school students in the historic African-American community of Lincolnville.
