The Community Foundation is now accepting applications for the Art Ventures Small Arts Organizations and Individual Artists grants and the Dr. JoAnn Crisp-Ellert Art Fund (St. Augustine organizations only). The deadline for applications is June 13, 2013.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy recently highlighted the 50 most generous donors of 2012 and Jacksonville’s J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver came in at #17 with $83.7 million in giving for 2012. The Chartrand Foundation, a private family foundation that focuses its philanthropy on early childhood and K-12 public education reform in Duval County, will simplify its operations and conduct all of its grantmaking through The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida beginning in the spring of 2013. Delores Barr Weaver has made a gift of $50 million to establish the Delores Barr Weaver Fund at The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, firmly positioning herself among the top tier of philanthropists in the community in the past 100 years. The Delores Barr Weaver Fund will be the largest single fund at The Community Foundation and, with $50 million in assets, would rank among the largest private foundations in Northeast Florida. Among the most important, and sometimes most difficult, things for an organization to undertake is self-reflection. Our natural tendency, it seems, is to DO. It requires more discipline to pause and reflect on what we are doing, how we are doing it and why. In 2011, the trustees and staff of The Community Foundation engaged in a significant exercise in self-reflection. It challenged our thinking and tested our discipline but, in the end, it gave us greater clarity about our purpose and an improved plan to fulfill that purpose. Get the full report here.
