COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS TO LOCAL ARTISTS

Jacksonville, Florida – Trustees of The Community Foundation in Jacksonville have awarded grants to six Jacksonville artists to support their work during the coming year.

The grants, made by the trustees during their May meeting, are awarded under the Foundation’s Art Ventures initiative. The grants are funded through the Art Ventures Endowment Fund and the J. Shepherd, Jr. and Mary Ann Bryan Arts Endowment.

“The arts has long been one of the fields of interest in which the Foundation is most active,” said Nina Waters, president of the Foundation. “Our donors have supported our work in the arts, and it remains a special privilege for us to focus on emerging artists and arts organizations and help them in those critical development years.”

Artists receiving grants from the Foundation are:

Linda Broadfoot, $3,500 to study the photogravure process with expert Jon Goodman, and to support editioning recent photographs.

Emily Douglass, $3,500 to study printmaking at the nationally-acclaimed Penland School of Craft in North Carolina, and for the creation of a narrative suite of thematically-driven prints.

Zachary Freeman, $3,500 for materials and production (printing and mounting) costs of photographs featuring photographic stills using darkness and moving light sources.

Roseann Herud, $3,500 to purchase equipment and supplies (digital camera, color photo printer, computer for photo programs, paints, frames, etc.) to enable expansion of her work in Duval County elementary schools and Shands Hospital.

Daniel Solomon, $3,500 to purchase a laptop computer and updated software that will allow the filmmaker to edit his work in any location.

Jennifer Woodall, $3,500 to support studio space within an artists’ cooperative, for art supplies to produce a large body of oil and acrylic paintings, and for reproduction of the artwork.

The Community Foundation in Jacksonville, Florida’s oldest community foundation, works to stimulate philanthropy to build a better community. It has assets of $125 million and has made grants in excess of $118 million since 1964.
